Number 2, our house

Somewhere in the Spring of 2014 our stay in China will come to an end. After about 7 years living and working in Shanghai it’s time to head home. The Netherlands that is, city as yet unknown… Now, we could return the easy way. Load our things into a container, ship it to Rotterdam and sell off our remaining things and book an one-way ticket to Amsterdam. But we decided to do it differently.

Since China has been such a huge part of our life we feel leaving the place should be an event in itself to say proper goodbye. So we decided to travel back to The Netherlands over land. By car. This blog is the travel log of that journey, that will hopefully lead us trough big parts of China, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazachstan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, Bulgary, Romania, Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia, Italy, Slovenia, Hungary, Slovakia, Austria, Czech Republic and Germany.

But it is much more than that.

Here we will also document our preparations for our trip. Figuring out a nice route, obtaining a Chinese driver’s license, buying a car, arranging visas and all other preparations we need to make. Feel free to comment or suggest things we should or should not do. The map above is a dynamic one, which means it will show all the places we visit, once we pass through. By clicking on the different icons, you will be treated with hopefully lots of text, photos and videos.
